As a testimony to God’s saving grace and power, Mac Owen, was rescued from certain death, both spiritual and physical, from the world of drug and alcohol addiction on Feb. 22, 1988. When Mac accepted God’s call, the Father refused to let him stay where he was and started carrying out the work He began in Mac. Through God’s power and compassion for His children, God changed Mac’s life and he served as an elder at White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, LA for 17 years
In 1990, Mac, along with his wife, Mary, started Overcomer’s Outreach, a recovery ministry for addicts, alcoholics, and their loved ones. Mac & Mary led this ministry for 15 years until they changed it to Celebrate Recovery as they saw more Christians needing healing from their hurts, hang-ups and habits. Now on any given Friday night, an average of 400 people share their strengths, hopes, and struggles at Celebrate Recovery at the ministry they began in West Monroe, LA. Celebrate Recovery is that church’s greatest local outreach now.
Mac and Mary have been married for 37 years. They have 3 children who are all married and active believers while blessing them with 10 grandchildren. They moved to Colorado in October of 2012 because 7 of their grandchildren now live there.
Mac was self-employed as a cabinetmaker for 35 years. Two mornings a week at 6:00 a.m. men came from all over the surrounding towns to Mac’s shop to study the Bible in depth. During his work hours there was a steady stream of people who would drop in for a cup of coffee and to hear more about this Jesus.
Mary grew up an elder’s daughter and one of her greatest joys was praying for Mac to accept Jesus as His Lord and witnessed him become a part of God’s Kingdom. Mary has been a Bible teacher for children, teens, and women. Mary was the accountant for Mac’s cabinet shop while serving along side her husband in the Kingdom. Mary also led an early morning bible study for women in their home weekly.
Mac and Mary now work for Saddleback Church out of Lake Forest, CA. They work from their ranch outside of Divide and travel a couple times each month to facilitate CR workshops and equip church leadership to start CR ministries and reach out to the hurting in their communities.
Together, Mac & Mary were Bible teachers at a church youth summer camp for 5 years. They helped organize and speak at marriage retreats for 7 years. They have taught marriage classes, and have served as pre-marital counselors for 16 years. Mac & Mary led a house church in their home for 10 years with up to 80+ people each week.
Mac and Mary were drawn to Impact Church their first Sunday they visited seeing it as a warm and friendly outreach-focused church family. They became members of Impact Church on January 17, 2013.
